Page to stage production rocked our saturday evening with their wonderful maiden play titled “WHAT HAPPENED TO COURTSHIP” a musical stage play written by Akwesi Nyame Tumi and Diricted by Solomon Nii Kwartei fiscian owu jnr.
The show started at exactly 4:30pm, where the Mc took over the stage and gave synopsis of the play and later introduced the legacy band who swept the feets of the audience with a classic song.
The play was starred with guru’s like Adjetey Annan who played Mr. Gyata, Naa Ashorkor as Mrs. Gyata, Prince Amoabeng as Kobi (A son to Mr & Mrs.Gyata), Pearl korkor Dartey as Kukie, Millicent Kumi Kyeremeh as Osofo mamme and others.
The play speaks lot about courtship and also has some kind of humour which made the audience enraptured much laughters. Ironically It was a tool of advocacy to the youth.
Yooyooafrica.com reporter Kcj speaking with the writer of the play Akwesi Nyame Tumi, indicated that, this same play has been stage in kumasi few weeks ago,where the attendance was good both first and second show and he is quiet overwhelmed with the attendance in accra aswell. In his words he speaks about the difficulties of the play ” Been a starter it’s very difficult to get sponsors”
He indicated that, his type of play involves musical interludes, so he brought on board kumasi based band named ‘the legacy band’ this made rehearsals of the play to be held both in accra and Kumasi with the cast and crew.
He continued to explain how his characterization was when writting the play “The script was written base on certain characters due to the music aspect”.
Akwesi Nyame tumi calls on coperate bodies and individuals to support his future productions and Ghana theatre as a whole.
At exactly 6:15pm, when the first show has come to an end, yooyooafrica.com interacted with some of the audience, a medical doctor Sena tells us..”The story line was very great and it has a tool that advices we the youth about how to prepare and not rush into marriage”
Others speak well of the play and it content and urge all play writers to produce good stories as such.
Speaking with our very own Actor, Mr. Adjetey Annan, he says “I accepted the script and didn’t look at the money aspect because i want to support the upcoming production companies and more over he added “I looked at how creative and how it will serve as an advocacy to the youth to take their time before getting into marriage”
Most question the audience were pondering at was, is he coming fully into stage?
According to the versatile actor, he says…”I will do it side by side both movies and the stage”.
Yooyooafrica.com went ahead to speak with Actress Naa Ashorkor Doku, she also said….
“I picked the script for the fun of it and it’s also challenging when doing stage than movies and it helps me to polish my acting and speaking skills”
Our reporter Kcj went on to ask her about the pairing of her and Adjetey as her husband, she says, “I think we act good together and the chemistry between us is great when we are acting together”
The director of the play, Samuel Nii Kwartei fiscian Owu Jnr. also added “It was very smooth working with these characters because I had actors amongst them who are very expierenced, I only did some polishing and we nailed it”.
It was a night of excitement and lessons were been injected into every persons that turned up at the national theatre. ..
