The president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has removed the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs. Charlotte Osei and two deputies, Georgina Opoku Amankwa and Amadu Sulley from office.
Statement released, dated June 28, 2018; and signed by the minister for information and Presidential spokesperson, Hon Mustapha Abdul-Hamid(PhD) say.
A committee was set up by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, pursuant to Article(146)(4) of the 1992 constitution to investigate separate complaints brought against three persons by Ghanaian citzens, recommended their removal from office, stated in the statement.
In the statement, it was indicated that the committee recommended their removal in the basis of states misbehaviour and incompetence, pursant to Article(146)(9) of the constitution.
“The constitution of the provisions of Article(146)(9) requires president of the Republic to act in the accordance with the recommendations of the committee” statement added.
In the further notice of the statement, the president has directed the three persons to hand over their respective schedules to the Director of Human Resource at the commission.
